Creatures and NPCs

updated January 23rd, 2020

Ahhhh NPCs, those innocent beings that we all love to slaughter. Unfortunately, there's not much variety to them due to the dreaded excuse of "engine limitations". Note that this section can be somewhat lackluster at times. Skyrim hasn't been around long enough to have really good creature mods, so we advise you to pick and choose whichever of these mods sound good to you!

In this section, we will discuss:
-Enemies and Monsters
-Followers
-Random NPCs
-NPC Appearance Makeover

Skyrim Immersive Creatures

Okay, so it's been almost 7 years, and SIC is STILL the best option for a massive enemy/monster overhaul. SIC adds tons of creatures to Skyrim, like Goblins!

WARNING: CTDs have been reported when using this mod, please put it set the mod to PURIST mode via the MCM if you use this mod.
Skyrim Immersive Creatures

Skyrim Immersive Creatures

The best, and really only, monster overhaul mod. Skyrim Immersive Creatures adds dozens of new creatures to enhance your gaming experience. This mod adds brand new creatures which fit in to the world of Skyrim, alongside variations of existing creatures, adding diversity and improving gameplay. It is HIGHLY recommended that you put SIC to purist mode via the MCM menu, this will improve stability and remove a lot of silly and unlore friendly creatures.

Skyrim Immersive Creatures - Unofficial Patch

Skyrim Immersive Creatures - Unofficial Patch

This is a MUST HAVE patch if you plan to use SIC. Fixes all known issues that are currently present with the current version of SIC.

Enemies and Monsters

Here are some optional monster mods to use with SIC or without SIC.

If you use SIC do not download said mods: The Walking Dead, Boars of Skyrim, Dwemer Spectres and Cliffracers. These mods are included with SIC. Everything else can be used with SIC with no problems.
Guars by 4thUnknown

Guars by 4thUnknown

This mod adds Guars to Solstheim and the border of Skyrim and Morrowind. They use an edited wolf skeleton and are simply adorable.

Creatures of Falkreath

Creatures of Falkreath

This mod adds creatures from Beyond Skyrim to the world of Skyrim, mainly Whiterun and Falkreath. This mod adds minotaurs, ogres, goblins, flesh atronachs and imps!

Zombies- Mihail Monsters and Animals

Zombies- Mihail Monsters and Animals

Just what you need in Skyrim, MORE UNDEAD!

Zombie Dogs and Skinned Hounds

Zombie Dogs and Skinned Hounds

Zombie Dogs are just dead dogs reanimated by necromancers in order to create feral and mindless guards to their lairs. Skinned Hounds are undead daedra resembling eyeless canines that seems to had their pelts removed, exposing the tissues, muscles and bones, native from Shivering Isles.

House Cats- Mihail Monsters

House Cats- Mihail Monsters

House Cats are docile small felines, used as pets by nords, and also to make rodent control on farms and inns, cus they hunt and eat rats. They are aesthetic animals, and will not engage in combat. You will see them in almost all cities and farms, sometimes also inside houses.

Female Rieklings -Replacer-

Female Rieklings -Replacer-

Replaces the rieklingbluev02 model with a female model. This will allow female rieklings to appear at random, and a somewhat common pace.

Female Giants -Replacer-

Female Giants -Replacer-

This mod adds female giants to the game, without the use of a esp! It replaces the Giant01 mesh with a female version.

Enemy Bats - Elements of Skyrim pt.7

Enemy Bats - Elements of Skyrim pt.7

This mod adds a slightly bigger species of Bat (TES 2: Giant Bat) to the world of Skyrim as common enemies inside most of the caves, and also on forts and nordics ruins. They are aggressive and bigger than the regular vanilla non-aggressive bats, but share characteristics with them.

Flesh Atronachs

Flesh Atronachs

This mod adds 7 variants of Flesh Atronachs created by the flesh magicka developed by Relmyna Verenim from the Shivering Isles.

Old Gods of the Hunt

Old Gods of the Hunt

This mod adds the Leshen from the Witcher to Skyrim. In Skyrim they are called The Old Gods of the Hunt, a powerful creature from previous and ancient Wild Hunt. These creatures can be found with packs of wild animals around them and will attack you on site. They can be found in forests, lakes, woods and hunting grounds and act like a boss character.

Dwarven Colossus

Dwarven Colossus

This mod adds the Dwarven Colossus from ESO to a few dwemer ruins across Skyrim as a boss.

Karstaag - The Frost King Reborn (Bloodmoon Creature Restoration Project)

Karstaag - The Frost King Reborn (Bloodmoon Creature Restoration Project)

This mod remodels Karstaag, restoring him to his former glory in the Morrowind: Bloodmoon DLC. No longer will the five-eyed king of the Rieklings, one of the strongest enemies in Skyrim, be an invisible copy of the generic frost giant!

Grahl - The Ice Troll

Grahl - The Ice Troll

This mod restores the deadly Grahl to the island of Solstheim. Grahls were an important enemy in the Morrowind: Bloodmoon DLC, but for some reason they weren't included in Dragonborn. Until now.

The Blood Horker (Bloodmoon Creature Restoration Project)

The Blood Horker (Bloodmoon Creature Restoration Project)

This mod adds the Blood Horker from Bloodmoon to Solstheim. It replaces all horkers on Solstheim and Horker Island with a unique skin and look.

Diverse Dragons Collection 2.0

Diverse Dragons Collection 2.0

This mod strives to create a dragon mod like no other seen before, drawing resources from 11 different mod authors and utilizing MCM scripts to create unmatched flexibility.

High Level Enemies

High Level Enemies

Adds 874 new enemies starting at level 10 to Skyrim. This is a decent mod to get if your planning to play at a really high level and you don't feel like turning on Legendary difficulty on. These enemies are mostly just re-names, but some have varying stats and perks to make each a little bit different. There are several different optional ESPs for DLC, level scaling, and hardcore difficulty if you always want the game to be difficult even with the best weapons and armor in the game.

Gehenoth

Gehenoth

This mod adds the monster called Gehenoth from the mobile game "TES Travels: Dawnstar" to Skyrim. You can run into the Gehenoth at 9 different locations as a sort of mini-boss.

The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead

If you only like the undead from the Immersive Creatures mod, then you're in luck. The Walking Dead only adds the new custom skeletons and draugr to the game without all of the other monsters from the original mod.

Immersive Patrols

Immersive Patrols

This mod adds some new NPC encounters to the game. They come in a wider variety such as roaming Imperial or Stormcloak soldiers, Thalmor agents, random travelers, and if you have the Dawnguard DLC you can get Dawnguard and Vampire patrols. Each group roams all across Skyrim and will attack enemies and anything that tries to harm them. It makes the roads a lot less empty now.

OBIS - Organized Bandits In Skyrim

OBIS - Organized Bandits In Skyrim

Now, instead of every bandit just being "bandit", they have names, groups, and more unique specifications. It doesn't do much with their stats, but does give them some seriously needed variety. Bandit groups sorta work how faction gangs worked in Fallout New Vegas. They each have specific skills and a certain uniform to uphold for the group they are in. Comes with MCM for extra customization!

Boars of skyrim

Boars of skyrim

Adds the bristlebacks from dragonborn to the forests of Skyrim. Dont expect them everywhere though.

Dwemer Spectres

Dwemer Spectres

Adds in the ghostly dwemer you remember from Morrowind, in several varieties, as well as several boss versions. Conflicts with Immersive Creatures since IC integrated this mod, however IC's spectre bosses are pussies and if you want an actual challenge you should use this version.

Cliff Racers

Cliff Racers

Adds Cliff Racers to the border between Skyrim and Morrowind.

Cliff Racers on Solstheim

Cliff Racers on Solstheim

Adds Cliff Racers to Solstheim.

Enemies and Monsters

Followers

Followers are awesome, simple as that. They can range from adventurous sellswords you meet along your journey, or friends you make and travel together on amazing quests! /tesg/ followers are great because instead of having some random guy following you around, you have a little piece of /tesg/ sprinkled into your game. A person that you meet in the threads and want to adventure with and take great screenshots with. DON'T USE UFO. IT'S NOT OLD AS SHIT ANYMORE, BUT IT'S LOADED WITH BUGS.
And of course we have our very own follower section, with character submissions from dozens of people from the /tesg/ threads! Pick which one's that interest you and try them out!

Be sure to try these recommended
followers as well!

Also, here are some non-/tesg/ followers that are just as good and unique!
Dovahbear

Dovahbear

Make the legendary flash animation come to life with YOUR very own Dovahbear companion! What's not to love about a huge bear wearing an iron helmet following you around?

Meeko Reborn

Meeko Reborn

A unique dog companion that comes with spells to command him.

Dwarven Luggage

Dwarven Luggage

A true pack mule mod. Dwarven Luggage adds dwarven spider chest that follows you around and helps hold a near limitless amount of weight within its interdimensional space. The Dwarven Luggage has a summon spell which allows you to call it to you along with all the gear you stashed on it, never loose your important gear again!

The Adoring Fan.jpg

The Adoring Fan.jpg

"Yes, oh great and mighty Grand Champion? Is there something you need? Can I carry your weapon? Shine your boots? Backrub, perhaps?"

Pelinal Whitestrake

Pelinal Whitestrake

HE'S MAD, MAD ABOUT ELVES!!!

Vivec

Vivec

The original NWAH with attitude!

Lorkhan

Lorkhan

This mod adds a follower of everyone's favorite trickster supergod, Lorkhan. Also known as Talos, Shezzar, Shor, Shebibbles, John, Sheogorath, and pretty much every major entity in the TES universe. God damn Lorkhan.

Dovahbit

Dovahbit

Like the Dovahbear, Dovahbit of Caerbannog is an animal companion with wearing and iron helmet. This is no packmule though however. Dovahbit will stay in combat and attract enemies, has high sneak for stealthy characters, and the best part of all is that you can customize what helmet he wears! All the vanilla helmets have been fitted for this little rabbit!

Inigo

Inigo

Inigo is a custom follower with his own voice, his own quest, and his own AI and stats. He's a very interesting follower who is well worth a try. Unlike other followers with voices, his DOESN'T sound awful.

Slave Pack Riekling Porter

Slave Pack Riekling Porter

This mod adds a little funny Riekling Porter with an oversized Backpack ready to carry your weights after you do him a little favor...

Ebonarm Restored

Ebonarm Restored

This mod makes the Ebony Warrior into the Alk'r God of War Reymon Ebonarm. Supposedly the Ebony Warrior was supposed to be Ebonarm but Bethesda scraped the idea since they've reconed him out of existence after Daggerfall (like many other things), well he is back and in all his glory. If you want to him to be a follower, just use a follower mod's force recruit option while he is at camp. Now you have a real god at your assistance, Dragonborn!

Extensible Follower Framework

Extensible Follower Framework

This IS the best follower overhaul to date. UFO is broken as hell since it hasen't been updated for quite some time, and AFT has less options than EFF. This mod allows you to further customize your followers traits. You can change where they live, how they fight, what they wear, and how they follow you! The follow cap is also set to infinite so you can actually make a real army of followers!

Amazing Follower Tweaks

Amazing Follower Tweaks

AFT is for those who don't like EFF or are having trouble with non-vanilla followers. It's easier to use than EFF but it comes with less options and compared to EFF's UI, isn't very neat. The real downside about this mod is that your follower capacity is stuck at five.

Relationship Dialogue Overhaul

Relationship Dialogue Overhaul

An updated version of DFD. It's like FCO except a lot less buggy. Adds over 5,000 lines of completely voiced dialogue for NPCs to use, with the main focus on friends, followers, and spouses. These lines are completely voiced and consist of existing lines that have been re-added in a new instance as well as new and completely unique dialogue I've created from splicing/editing parts of multiple dialogue lines together to form new ones that you will only hear from using this mod.

Immersive Horses

Immersive Horses

If you DESPERATELY need a horse mod, try this out. This is a horse overhaul that works with any companion mod. This mod makes horses more useful as well as allowing your band of followers to ride on horses in formations.

Followers

Random NPCs

It truly is hard to create NPCs that actually sound good, look good, and are actually interesting and useful in the game. These are the most popular and biggest NPC mods out there. They're pretty good but be warned, you're not gonna get quality professional voice acting from these mods.  Even if this is a Bethesda game...
Random NPCs

Interesting NPCs

Adds tons of very detailed, well written, and well-rounded NPCs into the game, along with several quests to go with them. However, every single kid it adds is an absolute shithead. We added the warning emblem and lore-breaking emblem because this mod will test your mental stability and give you an extreme strong desire to murder children. That aside, a good fourth of the NPCs are really good. They have interesting personalities, unique scripts, and voices that fit and don't have mic static. The other three fourths of the mod is awful. Just listen to them, here we have 2 examples of some decent to good voices.

And here are some really bad ones.  Note that THIS quality will be present in most of the other NPCs.

Inconsequential NPCs

The opposite of Interesting NPCs, this mods adds a large amount of unique NPCs who give no shits about you. They are voiced, and have their own lives, but don't really talk to you, and are intended to make the world feel less empty. But seriously fuck that Town Crier guy they added in, he sounds like he has brain problems; just listen!

Cutting Room Floor

This mod restores a few NPCs with some removed dialogue, small quests, and some buildings that were unused in Skyrim. The reason why they weren't added was probably because Bethesda ran out of time... or were lazy as usual.

DIVERSITY

It adds over one hundred new NPC:s with unique appearences to the Vanilla levelled lists for added racial diversity while staying lore friendly. Stats, levels, items, abilities, spawning, etc is entirely handled by Vanilla mechanisms, which ensures great compatibility with mods that for example tweak combat stats, or add and change clothing and weapons.

NPC Appearance Makeovers

It truly is hard to look at the ugly npcs in the game, well these mods hopefully correct those ugly npcs by making them look good, interesting and unique looking. These are the most popular and biggest NPC appearance makeovers out there. They're pretty good.
RS Children

RS Children

Makes the children in Skyrim not look like potatoes!

WICO - Windsong Immersive Chracter Overhaul

WICO - Windsong Immersive Chracter Overhaul

Way better than WSCO. Covers more, better textures, etc. Makes many male characters look amazing like my main man Tullius.

Bijin NPCs

Bijin NPCs

This mod will change the appearances of Vex, Sapphire, Irileth, Rikke, Hulda, Lisette, Carlotta, Karliah, Tonilia, Adrianne, Maven, Ingun, Gerdur and Idgrod the younger.

Bijin Wives

Bijin Wives

This mod will change the appearances of marriable characters(Camilla, Ysolda, Sylgja, Temba, Taarie, Muiri, Senna, Grelka and Morwen).

Bijin Warmaidens

Bijin Warmaidens

This Mod changes the appearances of Lydia, Jordis, Iona, Aela, Mjoll, Uthgerd, Ria, Frea, Rayya, Njada, Annekke, Adelaisa, Jenassa, Illia, Delphine, Ingjard, Aranea, Eola, Borgakh, Brelyna, Beleval and Ugor.

Seranaholic

Seranaholic

This Mod changes the appearance of Serana and her mother Valerica. PSST, 1.7 is the best version.

Toccata as Elisif

Toccata as Elisif

Really, it's a follower but he provides an optional esp that uses his follower's appearance for Elisif. Which makes Elisif my Queenfu.

The Ordinary Women

The Ordinary Women

This mod changes the appearances of 60 NPCs, mostly forgotten ones and ones already done by Bijin. Put this in and then Load Bijin after if you want the best results in my opinion.

All Housecarl Replacer

All Housecarl Replacer

This replaces the Housecarls appearances but it changes the men housecarls with female counterparts. So honestly, you'd only use it to replace the male housecarls with women.

Males of Skyrim

Males of Skyrim

This mod replaces the appearance of some males.

Nocturnal Replacer

Nocturnal Replacer

Replaces the npc you only see once in the blue moon if you stupidly signed your soul away for shitty gear and finish that god awful questline.

Pandorable's NPCs

Pandorable's NPCs

A visual overhaul of 80 female NPCs.

Q: Will you be adding more to these guides?

A: Of course!  We'll try to keep all the guides up to date and will notify everyone if something has changed or has been added on. We also accept submissions if the mod is good enough!
